Bozorgmehr Sharafedin is an Iranian journalist and filmmaker, currently working as Reuters Iran Correspondent.
He started his career in his home city of Tehran, where he worked in the media for almost 10 years including as editor-in-chief of Chelcheragh, a weekly social and news magazine for Iranian youth. He joined the BBC World Service as a senior broadcast journalist in 2008 to help BBC Persian launch its TV channel targeting Iran and Afghanistan. He was editor of ‘60 Minutes,’ an hour-long news bulletin that specialises in analysis.
Bozorgmehr produced and directed a number of documentaries for the BBC including The Ayatollah’s Seal about Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s leadership, and Ahmadinejad, the Populist and the Pariah on the rise, and legacy, of the former Iranian President. His film, Iran’s Secret Army, about the military presence of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in Syria, was shortlisted in the ‘Best Investigative Documentary’ category of the AIB awards, 2014.
In his last film, Afghanistan: My Return to the Valley of Death, he travels to Kunar Province, trying to find out why the Taliban are such an enduring force in Afghanistan. Bozorgmehr received in 2018 recognition award from the ambassador of Afghanistan to the UK for the film.
